Erection Dysfunction is the repeated inability to have or maintain ejaculation or erection. In a latest study it is found that one in ten men in the age group of 21 to 75 are suffering from the problem of ED in UK. Further it is said that smoking is one of the biggest physical factors leading to the problem of ED. Researchers from the past are trying to figure out the relation between ED and smoking. Smoking increases the risk of erectile dysfunction in men by around 50%. Others physical factors include treatment of cancer like radiation therapy, diabetes, etc. The actual mechanism that is the effects of smoking are:-
Less blood flows into the penis if the inflow route is blocked by long term build up of fatty deposits in the arteries (atherosclerosis) caused, in part, by smoking.
Rapid contractions in penile tissue, a direct an immediate result of nicotine stimulation in the brain, restrict arterial blood flow into the penis. This is known as acute vasospasm.
The valve mechanism that traps blood in the penis is impaired as a result of nicotine in the blood stream. This is known as venous dilation.
The most unusual thing about smoking is that most of the smokers don¡¦t know the side-effects of it. They don¡¦t know that it can render them impotence.
